Before coming to the UK in 2002 from her native Italy, Carmela was concentrating on choreography and performance in shows. Carmela came to the UK to study at the Royal Academy of Dance to become a ballet teacher and had to stop her usual 6 days a week training to concentrate on theory, which led to a back injury. This is when she discovered the Pilates method.  Having realised the benefit for herself, Carmela decided to use that knowledge and experience to help people to improve their overall body posture, strength and flexibility and learn to develop focus and conscious control of each body movement, thereby restoring flexibility or recovery from injury.

Having completed a Pilates Foundation Comprehensive Teacher Training Course and a Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology, Carmela always combines her dance training with the study of Pilates to offer all the benefits to her client. Regardless of age and life background, through a detailed approach, Carmela ensures each tuition is designed for the individual client’s abilities and needs. Carmela draws upon her movement background to add an imaginative and balanced approach, creating safe, effective and enjoyable lessons.  Her warm personality shines through to establish a connection with each client and she has extensive knowledge and experience in injury recovery and pre and post-natal.

Flavia Di Tommasi

I started practicing Pilates in 2014 after a friend of mine could not stop praising it – to the point that I wanted to see by myself what the hype was all about. I was a gymnast as a kid, and I have been a movement curious all my life. Gyms have seen me coming and going, always looking for some sort of meaningful, disciplined movement that would resemble the approach we were used to have in gymnastics. This is what really hooked me with Pilates: its focus on the quality of the movement, which improves with practice and widens the opportunities available to each and every one of us. I believe in movement as an experience, rather than a sequence of exercises, and this is what I would like to offer you.

After my mat work and equipment qualifications, I wanted to be able to support specific populations’ needs, so I qualified for Pre and Post Natal Pilates, I attended a course for Hypermobile and EDHS syndrome and as a Stroke rehab specialist.
Over the years, I discovered Trigger Point Pilates™, which blends Pilates with the principles of Myofascial release, and I focused on the Pelvic Floor and Orthopaedic restorative work.

I am a Biomechanic Coach and I can count a Boxercise instructor qualifications amongst a few other non Pilates disciplines that I decided to add to my list, along with Aqua Fitness ( I have to admit, that was more for the opportunity of playing random 80s music loud) and Barre Fitness.

Sarah Bilgore

Sarah has always been an active person, completing 2 London Marathons, 3 London Duathlons, cycling from London to Paris and completing variety of other sporting challenges.

Having to have both hips replaced led her to discover Pilates. Initially as a client, through post-operative rehabilitation, she found greater flexibility and muscle strength, better co-ordination and improved core strength. Pilates helped the recovery from invasive surgery by working the whole body and providing that mind/body connection.

The huge benefits that she gained through her Pilates practice helped her to decide to train as a BASI Fully Comprehensive Pilates Teacher.

Sarah is a firm believer in the importance of keeping active and believes that Pilates can benefit people from all walks of life. She now aims to pass on all that she has learnt, and am continues to learn on a daily basis, to challenge and inspire clients at all levels and mobilities.

Christina Dahl

Christina is an experienced Pilates practitioner. She has first hand experience of how Pilates can have a huge impact, and is passionate to help others overcome pain and injury and get a better quality of life through training.

Christina Dahl has a background as a chemical engineer and pharmacy technician in the medical industry, and has always had an interest in healthy food and training. It was after a traumatic postnatal experience and the resurfacing of an old knee injury that she came across Pilates, which was introduced to her through her physiotherapist.

After 18 months on crutches and several operations, she finally got better, and is now stronger then before her pregnancy thanks to Pilates. She is now focussed on helping others to improve their life by building up a strong core foundation, improve posture and being able to move correctly. She strongly believes that Pilates is great to proactively preventing injuries or help recover from such, and that it will benefit anybody, of any age and fitness level.

Pilates Instructor

Marc Goldberg

Marc’s interest in Clinical Pilates came from his own injuries over a professional Ballet career that spanned over two decades. He always cross trained with Pilates to condition his body to handle the extreme physical workload involved in professional ballet. Combining his own Pilates knowledge with his medical team’s rehab approaches, Marc was able to sustain a very long and gruelling stage career and gain an incredible amount of clinical knowledge as a result.

From 2007, while still dancing professionally, Marc began working in Pilates based rehabilitation. He found it incredibly stimulating and rewarding to help people of varying fitness levels and presenting pathologies. Towards the end of his dance career Marc moved into choreography to great critical acclaim. He found that his Pilates knowledge translated to the rehearsal floor seamlessly, helping these athletes understand their bodies better, as well as identifying potential injuries or issues from an alignment, muscular skeletal or negative movement pattern perspective. Marc is passionate about adapting and evolving that information for varied types of patient referrals and clients.

For anyone with running injuries Mike can undertake a detailed biomechanical analysis of your running technique which often is one the causative factors leading to injury. With expert analysis Mike can help fine tune and improve your running pattern to make you a more efficient runner and ultimately less vulnerable to re-injury.

For those looking to lose weight who are unsure of how or where to start Mike can also offer advice based on the current scientific research on nutrition and he can dispel lots of common myths associated with weight loss and provide the most effective strategies for long term gradual weight loss and improved general health and conditioning.

Nikki Hey

Nikki Hey is a STOTT trained Pilates instructor from Johannesburg. She’s been teaching Pilates for many years. When she lived in South Africa, her main focus was teaching private sessions from her home studio. Since moving to the UK in early 2016, she’s started teaching a large number of group classes including 2 for Jessica Pilates in Frimley on a Monday morning.

Nikki comes from a very active and sporting family background. Her parents were sports people and her eldest sister a professional ballet dancer. Nikki did everything from gymnastics to cricket but had a true passion for running/sprinting. Unfortunately, this resulted in a recurring knee injury, which is what led her to Pilates. Nikki was amazed at how beneficial she found Pilates to be, not only for her knee but also her entire body!

Nikki has a true passion for helping people out of pain. She’s a lively and vibrant character who makes her classes both challenging and fun. With a lot of experience in 1:1 work, she has a keen eye for detail and is very hands on, ensuring that all the clients in her class are performing the exercises correctly. Nikki’s witty humour certainly adds to her abdominal workouts!

Coenie De Groot

Hi, I’m Coenie de Groot and I’m an Osteopath.

I was born in South Africa but have been living in the UK since 2000.

In addition to a Master’s degree in Osteopathy I have an extensive background in sports science, gym management, personal training and Pilates.  Up until quite recently my wife Denise and I owned an Osteopathy and Reformer Pilates studio which was perfect for combining all my knowledge and experience into one business.  We were able to support Clients with treatment to reduce pain and then also offer them longer term rehabilitation options using Reformer Pilates. This meant that not only could we take the pain away but through re-education on how to move properly, we could help prevent it returning.

As an Osteopath I don’t just focus on the part of the body in pain but take time to understand all the relevant factors which could be contributing to the problem.  This includes lifestyle, hobbies, work activity, sporting activity and general alignment and posture.

As part of my treatment, I also use a technology called TECAR therapy which in summary combines heat and high frequency to get deep into the tissues, muscles and bones.  This supports a much faster recovery rate than more traditional methods alone and because it’s non-invasive and gentle, it makes it a really popular treatment choice for my Clients.    This technology is supplied by a company called Winback for whom I also train other health care professionals who are using the machine for the first time.
